| Hi, Im Al from Boston. I fish saltwater here in new england, I enjoy the challenges of finding fish via reading water, current and beach structure from shore. Boat fishing is not for me. In my spare time not fishing I tie alot of flies and build a few rods a year. I look forward to participating on this site. |

| Welcome to the crew Al, glad to have you join us! we have a great community here with a wide range of users and some great stories and information shared by all. i share your passion for reading water, current structure and finding fish by breaking everything down both on the beach and on rivers and streams which in reality are very similar. If you understand the core elements of a river or stream or beach or even a lake and the structure and why fish hang out and feed in certain areas on certain things you can really increase your productivity. it is like a big puzzle and when the pieces fit it is extremely gratifying and rewarding. i still like to fish out of a boat but enjoy walking and stalking and exploring my fishing terrain on foot much more. |

thanks for welcoming me guys. I have been cruising around the site a bit, tons of great stuff on here, love the videos. I wont even watch the albie videos, september is so far off, I cant even look yet haha.
- Joe, I tie all the standard northeast saltwater patterns, I try to add my own twist to them here and there, I also do quite a bit of experimenting, trying to tie a fly that fits a specific need at a specific location.
Im on a weird kick right now, borrowing a bit of inspiration from big wooden striper plugs. Trying to tie something big and opaque with alot of action that will produce in the foam, like a danny plug in a fly almost. I dunno.
how about you, what you tying? |

Interesting Al, so are your new creations meant to fish at the surface like a popper? Got any pics?
I'm actually not tying much for salt water flies...got quite few left over from last year. I have been more in to my steelhead flies. I got on a bit of a spider kick, and more recently a some steelhead bees. Here is a link to my gallery on another forum; it has some recent patterns I have been playing around with.

Great flies and fish Joe, Ive never done any steelhead fishing, but its on the list.
its just an idea that I have in my head right now that im messing around with, I guess I want something like a giant heavily dressed snake fly, but Im talking giant, like 9-10 inches with a real bulky profile, thers a trend these days towards real sparse striper flies, wich have their place. but look at what the plug guys use, nothing sparse about them, and they have been consistently catching large fish in the surf for decades. I have some more tinkering to do, but I will post pics eventually. Also I think I need to wrap myself an 11 weight to cast some of these. another project. haha always busy. |
