|
|
| I am flying into Denver and attending a conference in Louisville, Colorado. I will have Wednesday afternoon and most of Thursday to flyfish. Can anyone give me advice on fishing spots? I will have a rental car and can travel. As long as I am at Denver airport by 5:30 pm Thursday. |

flyby,
Probably going to want to fish tailwaters right now. Things are pretty high with all the runoff we are getting. The Blue River is about an hour and a half away from Loisville. There are alot of fish in this area and the water will be fishable. Small nymphs #18-24 will be your best bet, midges, bwos, mysis shrimp, pheasant tails. Another tailwater that is worth checking out is The Dream Stream on the south platte. This is a bit further about 2.5 hours. But drives go by fast out here because there is so much to look at. If you are willing to driver there are multiple tailwates within the 3.5 hour range. Yampa, frying pan, taylor all have killer fishing and the same patterns will work at each. Let us know how you do. |

flyby,
Joey is a great friend of mine and many on this site.... One of the best dude's you could eve meet and fish with. Anyway, Joey did not tell you that he is a guide out there in Colorado .. he's a humble kinda guy .. and one hell of a trout fisherman. If you only have limited time ... you should definately consider hiring Joey for a day .. he will put you on some fish and show you a great time. Consider it. If you're not interested - that's totally cool. I just thought it was cool of Joey to help you out without any sort of "catch" --- that's just joey's nature - and exactly why I would recommend getting in touch with him. Either way Good luck! Have fun. |

| Don't waste your time driving to the dream stream. Flows are around 50 cfs right now, which makes it really tough to get into fish. Deckers (South Platte) is fishing well right now with BWO and some Caddis action. The flow is good and its not too far from Denver. Might try some stonefly nymphs too. |

| Thank you Joey and Jeremy. I very much appreciate the information and Jeremey, I will consider your advice! My wife owes me a birthday present that I may just want to cash in on. I moved to Minnesota and missed the trout opener in Michigan with a steadfast group of flyfishermen friends from way back. I am looking forward to wetting the line in Colorado. I never have in your wonderful state and do look forward to it. Joey, your information regarding where and with what is great, and I thank you. I will consider a guided tour. |

Thanks Troutfly247. I will be wading only and will not have too much time. 3.5 hours is probably too far to drive.
Regarding rods for the trip....I have a 7'9" 3 weight 5 piece that is an enjoyable small stream rod and travels well. Also have a 9' 5 weight 4 piece. Should I bring both or leave the 3 wt behind? Any other recommendations are appreciated. |
