| Come to the Montauk, NY on sept. 19th for the party! Gonna be tons of fishing ... and the fall run should be in full swing .. and there will be plenty of people to show you the ropes. Vist
http://www.montaukfishingparty.com Seriously going to be 1 big fishing binge with a get together on Saturday evening. Consider it. If you can't do that. I would recommend a place like Montauk, NY or Rhode Island as a place to "get your feet wet" .. I would also recommend mid september'ish as the tourist season is over in those places and its basically just all fisherman on the beaches and rock piles and jetties. Its not uncommon to have full days of blitzing stripers and bluefish within casting range of the shore and albies and bonito mixed in for good measure. You can really spend a lot of time pounding unproductive water and trying to learn the ropes, and that's not a bad thing .. and sometimes you meat people and they help you and you start to find spots through the people you meat etc.. But, to be honest, even a 1/2 day guided trip at the beginning of your trip can really help out a lot in terms of understanding what you are looking for when you "go it alone" and understanding what is fishy water and what is not fishy water and understanding how stripers feed in comparison to bluefish, bonito, albies etc.. So, if you are willing to consider a guided trip in these regions I recommend contacting some of these friends and great guides Amanda Switzer in Montauk NY (http://www.guide-lines.com) and if she can't guide you, she can line you up with someone in Montauk who can. Greg Snow who guides both Block Island and The Rhode Island Mainland during that time of year (www.snowflycharters.com) and also try Capt. Mike Warecke who fishes both Ct. and RI waters and is a great fly fisherman (http://www.ctfishsaltwater.com/) ... So, hope some of this helps .. and no matter what you do .. have fun and good luck. Can't go wrong with a 9 weight fly rod, some sand eel patterns, some big white deceiver patterns, perhaps a flatwing or two, intermediate line .. and don't forget a stripping basket .. you will be glad you brought one. Good luck, have fun. |
