If anyones cares to share some knowledge about what they think of Colton Fly Rods and their Saltwater rods( tradewinds), I would really like to know more about then, to see if they would be a good investment or if they are a load of crap.
I own a Colton tradewinds fly rod. 10 weight 9 foot rod 4 piece. I spoke with a gentlement from Colton, I believe his name is Bob, and he was wonderful to work with, as well as his wife.
The action is FAST FAST FAST. Ultra fast. Not kidding. I use a 350 grain Rio Striper line sometimes a 400 and that gives it some serious flex. I bought this rod for punching hard into the wind, and using heavier lines for ripping current and it does just that.
It's not a light rod, when compared to a Sage Xi2 or a Helios. Be aware that the guides on the Tradewinds (unless recently Changed) are the smaller stripping guides.
All in all I love the rod, and it's the first one I pick up everytime. Just beaware that it's shockingly fast at first, it has the small stripping guides (my personal preference) but I know other people don't.
I hope this helps. I would seriously message the guy at Colton, because he is wicked helpful. He might even send you pictures of his 22 weight Leviathan Rod... not kidding.
