Fly Fishing

Having been around fish and fishermen ( and women who fish ) since I was born I have had the opportunity to hear a lot of people talking about fishing. Fishermen love to talk and hear themselves talk and may very often offer up a bunch of drunken garbage relating to any and all walks of life but sometimes have some real jewels. I thought it would be fun to tell y'all a few of the great ones that have stuck with me and some I've made up. I would love to hear any sayings or wise words about fishing or anything at all from the "sage" old salts you have known ( or come to be! ).

1. If you don't fish you don't catch.
2. Think like a fish.
3. Wind from the east fishing least. Wind from the west fishing best. ( the verdict is still out on this one. Any thoughts?...)

4. Enter the stream like a gentleman and the fish will bite your hook. Enter the stream like a fisherman and don't expect a look.

5. George Burns once said that the most important peice of advice he ever got in show business was "always bring your wallet on stage with you".

Great post! Here's a couple that stick out for me.

1. "Keep your fly in the water" - old time atlantic salmon fisherman said this to me.

1. We might not catch any fish today but the cooler is full of beer and atleast we will catch a good BUZZ

"We aren't fishing for squirrels or birds"-used to say that on the green all the time when guiding people who wouldn't leave their fly on the water and kept false casting.

"Fish the future, not the past" guide friend of mine would say this when driftboat fishing meaning don't cast behind the boat cast in front...always fish ahead.
