Not sure about others out there, but me and the crew I typically fish with don't often do the whole "lunch" thing. In other words, we typically like to fish hard for the entire day and have 1 good meal at night. So, whether it be a day of salt or freshwater fly fishing - dawn usually finds us stocking up on a days worth of "fishing food" ... Now, good "fishing food" has much less to do with taste and amenities ... and much more to do with how quickly it can be eaten and how dense the food is .. In other words, if it can't be eaten with rod in hand while moving between pods of busting albies or while crossing a steelhead river ... its probably not the perfect "fishin' food" ... I'll start by listing a few of the "staples" that always seem to find their way in our packs or in the small boat compartment .. What's your favorite "fishin food"

1. Bannana Nut Muffins - quick, easy and dense. Although they can crumble and the wrapper on the muffin is sometimes a pain to deal with.

2. Power Bars - easy, lots of protein and dense. Expensive though.

3. Beef Jerky - Tastes good, requires lots of chewing though and tough to down an entire bag super fast.

4. Planters, Bags Of Trail Mix - Good healthy stuff, found at any gas station. On the pricey side .. but the reclosable ziplock back is nice. 3 bags of this can get me through an entire day.

5. Red Bull - Good for a quick buz and a lift .. but expensive and tastes terrible and you do crash pretty hard after a few of these.

I'd add to your list, a few apples, water (coffee if it's winter), and some cigars.

I'd leave out the baked goods. They don't seem to travel well. Wink

And as for the Red Bull, I'll leave that for you young guys, it's not my cuppa -tea, LOL

1. Beef Jerky - great protein, usually come in waterproof resealable bags.. helps if things get crazy.

2. Red Bull - Nothing like the jolt of a cold red bull to get you going as the sun peeks over the horizon. Coffee is nice if it's cold, however.

3. Bananas - Bananas are loaded with vitamins and all kinds of healthy stuff. They are quick, not messy and can be downed in a few bites.

4. Water - Not really a snack, but staying hydrated can keep you going a lot longer especially if you're on the flats all day.

5. In case of slow fishing, or in celebration of a big catch.. Toss a couple of your favorite cold ones in your backpack..

Generally nothing. Maybe some mayonnaise and vinegar, and a saltine if it's going to be a long day.

Yes, Rhodyflyguy .. I know that you and I are on the same page when it comes to "eating" and fishing .. i too enjoy NOTHING. no food, no water and about a gallon of black coffee in the morning ... If memory serves we had some great 12-15 hour days on the water .. fishing the entire time .. and eating/drinking nothing ... although, i do recall you getting a little "soft" towards the end of the summer and bringing a bottled water on one of our trips ... Very Happy

I only eat on the water if it's slow and I'm suddenly hit with starvation and weakness. If I'm losing the ability to cast then I know it's time to take a short rest and sit and eat. I go for:

1. Beef Jerky! I totally thought I was the only one here... So glad to hear I'm not.

2. Some trail mix. Nothing fancy just some peanuts and raisins maybe some chocolate chips.

3. A cold coke.

4. Bananas

5. On cold, wet day... Whisky in a flask. In moderation.

And Coffee early in the AM is absolutely essential.

I'm fond of a solid lunch rather than snacks.....I like to take a nice break and enjoy an hour or so off my feet.

American Classic w/ some bourbon.



Tuna, red pepper humus, pickles & hots....JJ Nissen Wheat.



Nathan's. They make a good snapping noise Smile



Cold one in October....requires soup, sausage, and sandwich, beer and bourbon!



One must hydrate Cool



Tough to beat chicken salad, mixed w/ mayo, relish, hots, spears and geary's!



Did I say I liked lunch?
