|
|
Being that it is the holiday season already (time flies way too fast), I was thinking that it would be cool to see what is on the fly fishing gift wish list for any of you guys out there. Every year my girlfriend asks me what I want for christmas but is afraid to buy me something fishing related, same goes for my family since they figure i have all i need. I do work in a fly shop and have worked in the fly fishing business for almost 20 years but I still always need certain things. In fact, my brother who also works in the fly fishing business as a guide would always buy me a fly fishing related gift for christmas because he knew that we fished so much that we had to replace certain things. Granted, we can get good deals on things but that doesn't mean we can afford everything we want. As a result, I would always appreciate the fact that he got me a fly fishing related Christmas gift. So lets hear what fly fishing related gifts you guys would like to get for christmas. Mostly I was thinking about fairly generic things that you can always use, but if you have a specific thing you are dying to get this year that would be cool to hear about too! It might even be a good place to refer your significant others or family as a kind of reference list, who knows? Here goes for me:
1. Good long underwear. I like patagonia capilene and regulator, but as much as i fish i wear it out so can always use more.
2. Synthetic socks, preferrably smart wool or capilene. Same thing for these. I wear them out fast, and can always use more
3. New tippet and leaders. You always need the basic sizes like 5X for trout or 15lb for saltwater etc.
4. New fly line. They wear out, you can always use a new one even if you already have one. If you don't need the exact size, you can exchange for something you wouldn't otherwise have
Those are a few of my ideas, now how about you guys? |

1. "The
Drake" - Magazine subscription
2. Can't go wrong with a
Gift Card
3. GPS device(s) or GPS add-ons such as Garmin Maps etc.. (could be
complicated for the buyer though, if they don't know what kind of GPS unit you
have.) Another cool thing along these lines is the "Spot"
satellite GPS messenger
4. Two way radios. Pretty cheap and really useful on fishing trips if fishing
with multiple people.
5. Gas card gift certificate to "fuel" fishing trips. This is an especially
good request because if someone (like your wife) gets it for you .. well, you
HAVE to go fishing! Otherwise she might think you didn't like her gift. |

Hi! New here, but have some ideas as well.
Furled leaders to match rod weight, my son makes them so I like to get him to make them for me for a gift.
Always looking for new flies, for freshwater. He makes them too, and I would LOVE to have more. There's a few I never have enough of, the old standbys.
I would like a small fly rod, like a 2wt. And of course all the goodies that go with it.
Dry bags. I would like a horizontal load dry bag for my camera pack to have on the boat.
And of course, one can never have too many fly boxes.

I am always getting FF related stuff for x-mas as well. This is on my list;
-New waterproof, shockproof point and shoot digital camera... yes I know everyone has one, but I don't! There are some pretty nice ones out now.
-Tube fly adapter and kit; preferably the Eumer
-A plethora of different sizes of gamakatsu hooks for tying
-Light weight Synthetic down jacket... either simms or patagonia
-A flip Ultra HD mini video camera. *A friend of mine had one our last steelhead trip and they are really cool because you can stuff them in you pocket and get some decent footage with it.... nothing too great, but enough to make a cool, short video while on the river without lugging a video camera
These are all pretty expensive, but I know they would get some good use! |

In Dubai for awhile now. Nearest shop is 7 hours away by jet. Best thing anyone could get me is a 10 wt. saltwater permit and cuda kit, complete with a box full of flies. Heck, I'd even settle for a 7 wt. kit. Or, just give me both.
And of course, a gift certificate from FedEx. |

For years fly fishing has been a passion for me, not just something to do but a stone addiction!! Every friend I have and every member of my family knows this, they also know the shop in Fairfield I use! Gift certificates for fly fishing gear..........NO! Never! Plenty of socks, sweaters, underwear, tools??? what am I going to do with tools? In 30 years of marriage and 3 kids, not one fly fishing related Item! not so much as a woolly bugger. I have found alternative uses for what I do get. A tasteless sweater becomes fly tying material, socks the same. Melting down the presents made of metal can be converted to split shot and nobody knows, apparently the don't know I fly fish!!! why would they notice anything else! Hope I get an Olive colored sweater for Christmas for BWOs. Have a happy Holiday
