Fly Fishing

As much as I hate to admit it, winter has arrived. With the coming of the cold weather my mind immediately starts to wander to finding ways to escape from it. At some point I may break down and move somewhere that remains warm in the winter, but for now it is something that I can only achieve by travelling to a warmer climate. Bonefish are one of the first thigs to come to mind with a few permit, tarpon, barracuda in as well for good measure of course. Bonefish though, are the primary draw considering their relative abundance and ease of accesibility. The big consideration a lot of he time is being able to fish unguided. I do find that it is more than worth it to hire a guide for a day or two even if you are familiar with the area
just to familiarize yourself with current conditions, but I really enjoy fishing on my own and being able to just casually fish for a few hours on my own schedule (especially when I travel with my girl). So my question is, what is your favorite bonefishing destination? Not asking for specifics since it would be spot burning but also I realize very few people would say just general locations. I have been to a few and my favorite's are (not necessarily in order):
1. Belize
2. Long Island Bahamas
3. Ascension Bay, Mexico
4. Florida Keys

I have few places I have ever fished for Bonefish and I can thank my friend, Dave Tepper (hedrush999) for the invites. Dave made friends with a terrific Bahamain guide and ended up being an expert in putting his friends on quality Bonefishing in the Bahamas for realistic prices. Every time we went there to Pelican Point we stayed in a modest but picturesque cottage right ON the water, had our evening meals brought to our door and got to fish with a terrific guide. I will never forget those times and I hope to one day be able to return. I still have my Bahamian dollar bill. Very Happy
