| Hey guys, as winter draws closer, I spend a lot of time at the tying vise to pass the time. I was curious as to what patterns most of you spend time tying to get rid of the "shack nasties" |

Wish I were better about tying when I have the free time, but I'm not. Don't get me wrong, I love to tie flies, but it seems that I am most motivated to do so with an upcomming trip. Then I tie whatever I seem to be lacking, and will need the most.
In general though, I enjoy tying steelhead streamers and spey flies if I were to just sit and tie. I like the innovative patterns, the different colors, different techniques. You can go crazy with a pattern and make the most outlandish flie ever seen, and still push yourself back from the vise and think to youself, "Ya know, I think this will really hammer 'em." |

| You can never have enough Pheasant Tail nymphs. In all sizes and colors. But in the winter I try to replenish all that is missing from the boxes. And also tie up a few new flies I haven't used before. |

| Tying for me is a close second to fishing, most winter evenings I will spend a couple of hours at the bench. That generates way more flies than I would ever use in two lifetimes, but I've got several friends who don't tie, they get the surplus. I can't "production" tie, two or three of one pattern, then I've got do something else. Not very efficient. This winter I'll be busy with stocking up for a return trip to Labrador and a first ever trip to B.C. Always fun to tie something new. |

| I tie pretty much everything year round but the thing i tie the most is glo bugs. I used them for trout, red salmon and dollies a lot plus since they have to be right on the bottom i lose a lot so i need to tie a lot, i would say i tie 800 to 1000 glo bugs a year in all sorts of colors. |

with the streams low and warm (most of 'em anyway) I've been trying to master some new (for me) ties, emergers and parachutes.
tied a few parachute Iso's the other night, and a bunch of snowshoe hare emergers |
