No, I don't mean tying vises. Rolling Eyes

I'm talking about habits...things you gotta have when on the water. I ask this because I just ordered a box of cigars for my hours spent on the water. I'm trying to get away from cigarettes, but I can't go without something. Laughing There is something about having a smoke while fishing, or sitting streamside, or sitting in a float tube. I know Jeremy likes his Pal Mals("Wherever particular people congregate"), and if he could fill a camelback with coffee he would, but what about everybody else... cigars, whisky, cigaretts, gum, candy...maybe just fresh air?

Well it is sad to say but I can not even imagine the thought of hitting the river without nicotine of some sort. I will be looking forward to a couple draws off those fine cigars you ordered, if they ever arrive. lol....

I gave up nicotine many years ago, but must admit there are times when fishing with Jeremy the thought of asking "do have an extra smoke?" have crossed my mind. Something about the outdoors I guess. Feet up, mind free of worry, and a good bourbon on the rocks is my way of reflecting on the days fishing.

I'm similar to Pat. Gave up smoking over 10 years ago. And fortunately for me I never get the urge to smoke anymore. I'm always to focused on getting in the water and fishing anyway. After the fishing is over I like to reflect with a nice beer, or more. Long trail Ale is generally the beer of choice.

Well as most of you know i may have a few bad habits when it comes to fishing downtime. But I can't beat a mountain dew and a vicodin or two.

Hey Rick,

First things first...if we are ever to fish together what is your brand of choice? As you can see, whippa has some pretty descriminating tastes. Razz Rolling Eyes He got a taste of some legit cuban Cohibas while he was in the Keys and it has been all down hill from there. Laughing

Actually, we were just talking the other day about how different a good cigar (any $5.00 brand, no need to be anything special) is from the Dutch Master's of our youth. In recent years, I have only begun to investigate what is out there. What are your go-to stogies?

Some of my faves are:
LaGloria Cubana Wavell, a nice robusto size (I like the maduro wrapper on this one) you can find them on line for about $70 a box

A variety Montecristos, they make a lot of different blend/wrapper combinations, some of these can a little more pricy, but they have some petit caronas 4 x 44 that are about $50 a box on line they're a nice quick smoke great for fishing. You don't want to hunker down with a big one hour cigar until the end of the day. Wink

I've had quite a few habanas, and honestly, a lot of them didn't live up to the hype.

coffee - lots of it - black - all day - every day. the stronger the better. funny - that you bring up cigars - i loved to smoke cigars before they became a huge trend 3 or 4 years ago. a good cigar can really mello a guy out and that came in very handy while nymphing. the good news is that the trend seems to be over --- all of the posh cigar bars closed down and now the trend is smoothies, wheetgrass and jogging. so, maybe this season, i will give a go at the cigars again. like everything else - sometimes you get what you pay for and a good cigar is worth the money. other times your just paying for marketing and other times nothing beats a back woods or a white owl. cheap and gets the job done. so rick, whippa,krane...if you got a couple extras kicking around bring one for me. i am looking for a new vice - i am getting bored with all of mine. Very Happy

Which CAO Whip?

I like the CAO Piranias, nice little maduro robusto, full flavor but not harsh.

I'm going to be in N.Carolina for a few days next week, Good prices at JR Cigar outlet there. I'm going to stock up.

where are you guys buying your stogies? Go see Mike Glynn at Rockys...tell him Ricardo sent you Wink
