I live out West and have a couple decent steelhead rivers near me for weekends and long day trips (Washington and Idaho). We don't have a lot of water in the rivers, but am planning on getting to WA next week for a couple days.
I have been tying a bunch of flies, and have a bunch of patterns I like to use in the fall, but wanted to know if any of you have winter steelhead experience find certain flies that work better in the winter, than the fall?
More than likely I will be swinging flies, but plan on nymphing as well, so I am stacked up with all kinds of eggs and other steelie nymphs. I am thinking more about classic and tube fly patterns. I am a firm believer that you have to use flies that YOU trust and are confident in, but I also like to hear opinions from others and have as many patterns in my box as possible.
