I have the Venture 7, not happy with it for a number of reasons. It free spools in sub-zero temps, the handle is metal and sticks to wet fingers in the cold and last but not least, I believe it is made by Okuma. Other than that, it performs flawlessly if the temperature is above freezing but in my opinion any reel that costs $100 should perform consistently, regardless of conditions.

The cork handle on the first Power Matrix I had fell apart after 4 or 5 outings. I sent it back and received a replacement within one week. The replacement rod has been used and abused heavily, stepped on with Korkers, thrown in the boat, literally slammed in the car door, cased wet, you name it....bullet proof. Love it.

A+ on the ORVIS Power Matrix. It's one of my favorite rod's in mid $300 range.

I've had customers mention the same thing about the Venture reels in the icy conditions. Not a good thing when you fighting a 10lb. winter steel.

Check out the Mid Arbor Reels from Orvis for the money. They are machined and have a good quality drag.
