I am new to this forum and thought I would share a recent fly fishing trip with you. On a first time visit to the Banana river with a friend we found ourselves surrounded by monster Redfish. After numerous attempts I finally managed to entice one to eat. Now you must know this all took place two weeks after that bad freeze and the fish were shallow and lethargic. This particular fish rolled about forty feet off the bow of the boat and flashed me with that big white belly. After two casts I finally placed the fly close enough to him and he chased it fifteen feet straight at the boat. He finally ate the fly five feet from the boat and with half of my leader in the guides all I could do is weight for him to swim off before I could set the hook. Then it was on, it took thirty five minutes to finally land this monster. It turned out to be 43" and 28lbs and my first fish on the new Orvis Hydros 8wt.
And I am happy to say he swam away strong and healthy. |

| Great fish and welcome to the board! What kind of fly did it eat? |

It ate a hand tied crab pattern that I tied on a #1 bonefish hook. And it did not bend.
