I fish mainly in western pa on oil creek in may through late July near oil city and was wondering what flies work best for other fly fishermen in the area.
Caddis flies have always been my go to summer fly, especially skittering across the surface on a long , light tippet. Also keep your eye out for sulfers and BWO's. I live in south central PA, and in the mid to late summer evenings, the sulfer hatches can be awesome. Also keep some terrestrials handy, these make great searching patterns. I like to use crickets, dave's hoppers, and small black fur ants. I know it's real early but i hope this helps you out this year. Also join your local Trout Unlimited chapter to really talk to guys who are knowledgeable about your home waters. It's a great organization that does a lot to protect our fisheries.
