The Ross Evolution is designed primarily for freshwater, but you could easily use it in saltwater too. The size range only goes up to a size that would work for an 7 weight or maybe an 8 at the most, so it would be limited.

I have an evolution-3 that is outstanding in the salt. I fish the salt 2-3 times a week (wading) and the surf and sand and water movement can be brutal on gear. The evolution is a great reel. As a comparison I have a Redington CDL on an 8 weight that I brought to the surf and I have to take it apart after every session to clean it. It's a pain! The Ross Evolution has a more protected (not sure if it is truly sealed...) drag system. It takes a freshwater soak and and a rinse and is good to go.
