I have been a little disappointed in myself this year. Have not spent too much time chasing the Stripers in the salt...I guess it was just hard to beat the spring weekend we had down on the flats in Rhode Island 400+ fish and everybody got 30+ inchers...I got my fill of stripers.....BUT...now...the tuna are crusing the shores. Yup - its that time of year on the east coast - Tuna are in - In addition to the Bonito and Albies - believe it or not Blue Fin Tuna are being caught from Shore! So - that means I am hanging up the 5 weight for a bit and gonna give the trout a break...i am pulling out the 9-14 weights .... and chasing the fish that fight like few others....

I recently read about the difference between catching Tuna fish from shore and boat. see a tuna's natural instinct is to head right for the bottom..so when you get them on the boat..the chase and the fight leave a little to be desired because essentially it becomes a vertical battle. up and down..up and down....mine as well be bait fishing for 'em...However..when you chase them on foot and hook them from shore in shallow water --- they got nowhere to go but out ... and they are going out...way out into the backing and then some. and then some more...knuckle busters for sure...

SO - i am off to the shore of rhode island tomorrow morning - leaving maine at 2am- meeting dan in our favorite albie run at first light....hopefully we get to tangle with a few of anything in the tuna family...he has been catching them already this season...he's got the flies and the boat (if we need it) so all i gotta do is get there. wish us luck..cya.
