Hi guys,
will be flying to San Francisco on duty trip late summer. Will be there for a week with another colleague who has visited San Francisco before. We are both engaged in Fly Fishing and his idea was that we fly from Austria through Canada (with a stopover) so we can fish there for a day or two. However, my preference would be to fish the area of San Francisco if there are any possibilities. Kindly note that I'm not into Saltwater fishing so I would welcome any hints about any rivers around the area. If you know about a river there, please let me know the place, how long does it take to drive from the city, what is the fish population (would prefer salmonids), how to get the daily or whatever license, etc.
There are no freshwater options in Late summer in the San Fran area. The delta for bass and striper is close but if you really want to do some extraordinary fly fishing rent a car, drive up to Yosemite and fish the Yoemit valley, the Merced just out of the park or Toulumne river up in the meadow. Here is a link to a great guide: http://yosemiteflyfishing.net/ Tim knows the area better than most. Other than that its a 4 hour drive from SF to Redding nd the lower Sac. Thne again there is Sacramento and the Amerian/Yuba/Feather/ rivers and Tahoe for the Little and big Truckee. other than that there really isn't anything to fish in the SF area
