Today we had another trip to the stream, the stream had returned to a normal level with clear water. Weather wise it was cold with now and then rain showers.
We started off at the location where I had some hits on the fly last week.
As I fished a streamer under some shrubs the rainbow trout from last week shot out from
underneath the bank and tried to nail the streamer – he missed.
Since the fish had not felt the hook a second attempt was in order but the fish had gone.
I decided to let the streamer drift further into the maze of brushwork and by chance a nice
size rainbow trout lunged forward and took the streamer.
The battle only lasted seconds as the fish managed to throw the hook.
I fished some other pools to no avail, my buddy did not get any takes at all so we decided to move.

Clear water again

At the new stretch I fished a nice pool that used to be good in the past – well it was still
as bad as I had experienced last year.
The second pool however was as good as in old times.
A deadfall, tree roots and some floating debris where the shelter for a rather large brown trout.
At the first pass the fish shot out from its cover and followed the streamer but just missed it.
The second pass resulted in a hookup but as before the hook came out, fish gone.

I scouted most of the fish holding pools at the stream where I could toss the streamer but
no show. When I saw a rising fish at a tree stump I thought it would be easy to catch that fish
but all I hooked where some roots deep in the pool.
The only result was yet another fly donated to the trees.

At location nr. 2

Windflower are in bloom but with the lack of sunshine they where all closed.

At the last deep pool of the stretch I had a re-run of the previous trout attacks.
At the first attempt the fish missed, the second time I hooked the fish.
This time though the hook was set properly and I had a nice battle with a nice size
brown trout .

Brown trout.

My buddy in the mean time had found the honey hole of the day where he caught
several rainbow and brook trout.
Time was limited since my buddy had to go home early so no more fish to be caught,
I would have stayed to dark…

First crops on the fields.

During this day I made two involuntary hard landings = I went flat on the face because
Of the slippery banks, luckily the fly rod stayed in one piece
A dozen flies where donated to the stream bottom since they where too deep to be
retrieved without diving for them.
The icing on the cake was when the felt sole of the wading boot came off.
Still, that one trout was all worth it.
