|
|
I am a fly fisherman from western new york. I fish a tiny stream that is stocked with brown trout. I have been frustrated the last two years when i go there. I havent caught one brown trout in 2 years of fishing. I know they are there because i see them but they just dont go for anything i throw at them. I usually fish with adams sizes 12 and 14, green inch worms, pheasant tail nymphs and many more. If anyone knows what to do i will greatly appreciate ANY advice. Thank you for your time.

I fish a tiny stream with browns.
It is very common to have no results on nymphs or dries.
What often does the trick is a deeply fished streamer.
My favorite is a small black zonker with a mylar body.
If possible I will try position myself upstream from the pool
or deep hole I target and will let the streamer drift through
the depths. At the end of the drift I will retrieve the streamer
upstream and that usually does the trick. |

| where in western new york do you live, i live in hamilton ontario. i wouldnt mind finding some new places to fish i have heard about some of the bigger rivers like 40 mile around rochester . but smaller summer streaams for browns could be worth a day trip or overnight. f you dont mind directing me in that direction. as for your inquiry to flies i have found muddler minnow pretty effective and deeper pools have had some luck with the smaller wooly buggers or clouser minnows green and white my fav |

I live down about 50 miles south of buffalo. I am kinda near the tributaries to lake Erie. and yes I would. I don't know of any amazing brown trout creeks that re famous but I do
know of a creek that might be good for all around trout fishing. It's called the Chautauqua creek. This is located in Westfield New York. you can research it if you would like. Fore more info contact me through private messaging me |

| Cattaraugus & Chat are pretty good. Lost a brown in the Catt that about made me cry. Match dace, sculpin, creek chub/white sucker patterns. Olive, black, brown, white bunny wrapped w/ gold or silver tung bullets. Stockies/ hatchery dumbies gotta eat too. |

| I fish the upper Cattaraugus year round.I have had success using Black or Olive bead head buggers, but for the summer months a Elk Hair Caddis is by far the most productive fly for me. |

I'm also a western new yorker, Rochester to be exact. I fish for browns in tiny streams all the time. My go to fly has been a clouser type fly but I use a tiny hook(anywhere from a sz8 to 15).. I use those barbell type eyes and they make the fly look very realistic in the water. I'm pretty sure it's actually a Tiny saltwater fly, hahaha. But big dumb stocked browns will slaughter them all day. As for colors, I have tons of these tied in almost any color you can think of
I'll also tie ANY kind of midge type nymph on then drop rig a small streamer/clouser about a foot or so behind it and fish go crazy when they see this. |
