Heading to RI this weekend and plan to hit Winnapaug Pond with my fly rod for stripers.

I'm pretty experienced in fresh water and not in saltwater.

Any advice on flies, tides, time of day etc for this local or stripers in general would be a big help.

Tight lines!

Keep an eye out for the fish. That pond is very shallow and its not too uncommon to see the fish waking or rounding up bait in the shallows - especially early in the morning or before dark. Don't be afraid to work your way towards the breachway or closer to the breachway. There are some deep holes that you should be able to find, if you look a little. Clousers and sand eel patterns over the sand tend to work well .. and at night bigger eel or deceiver type patterns do well. At night, use your ears and listen for fish around docks and other structure. The beach infront of the pond can be good too. Walk and look for surface activity early in the mornings before the beach gets crowded. Incoming tides are good because the pond is so naturally shallow .. but, first 1/2 of the outgoing can be decent too. Don't be afraid to throw some green crab patterns too, if you find some picky fish ..

Good luck! Have fun.
