|
|
| I have dabbled in fly fishing for the past few years, mostly with inexpensive equipment. I have more time now and would like to get into the sport a little more. I envision wading the flats or walking the beach fishing for big reds or snook maybe. What would be a good rod and reel combo for saltwater for under $500. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks. |

| my first combo was a freshwater tfo 5/6 wt. for bonefish,, it was 4 years or 5 ago and it still solid, god brand though, then i got a redington combo which i liked and then i got a battenkill LA iv which i will be happier with an extra drag,, and at the moment i am looking for a good 10 wt. rod and i am deciding between sage or hydros. |

alfredo01,
Thanks for the feedback. Were you happy with the Reddington combo, and what rod weight did you have with that? I have heard good things about both Sage and Helios. A little pricey for me at the moment though. Good luck. |

| Not sure if the offer is still on, but I picked up an Orvis Hydros 7wt with free Battenkill LA for a bone fish trip to Hawaii this winter. Absolutely fantastic quick loading rod, and I felt it was a heck of a deal for 5 and a half bills. |

Go Redington. Great prices on the rods. How much you are going to use it is the question and if its one of those things where you might fish it once a week or once every couple weeks then you may want to go with a cheaper rod. Reels are the same way but you are going to want one with a good drag system. I personally love the nautilus reels. They might be a bit expensive for the budget you want to stay within but it would be a great buy. As for line go with Scientific Anglers line. They have all sorts of lines that run from cheap to expensive. Just get the one that suits your needs. Good luck.
