| No doubt about it, the Helios has really met with success in the world of salt water fly fishing the last couple of years and I've talked to many who are flat-out in love with it. Some of us, I suspect, have had a chance to experiment with lines. Any thoughts regarding the "best" line for tarpon for the Helios 12 wt? |

| bought 4 helios saltwater rigs in 2010 provided with weight forward "Allrounder" saltwater taper. turns the big flies over very well and reacts to tip flex power and control. My wife and I just returned from Key west fishing...she loved the rod and line combo too....best wishes juice |

Juice, thanks for you comments--
Here's what I've come up with after consultation with both an excellent independent shop and the salt water specialist at an Orvis dealer. In a couple of weeks I'll let you know how it all worked out. I've put a 12 wt SA WF floating tropical "all-rounder" line on with 400+ yds of 35 lb. Gel Spun backing. This should be good for any generic situation. I also ordered a spare spool and on that I am loading a Rio Tropical Outbound Short Fly Line with a floating running line and an intermediate sinking head. This should be great for tarpon and for the Baja. |
