|
|
Hey Guys,
I'm having a bit of a dilemma, I'm looking for a new fly rod and reel, but as i'm a broke ass college student, i just can't throw down $500 for a new setup. I've been looking at a few of the outfits out there but everything seems to be for the beginner angler. Another problem i'm having is that this rod and reel will be used mostly for smallmouth bass, and the occasional striper outing as I live right on the coast in maine. So if anyone knows of a package that won't break the bank and will offer versatility in those areas, I would love to hear from you. Thanks Again for all the help guys!

Look at Redington rods. Redington makes a great rod for an amazing price. I fish a Redington rod and it has always worked well for me. For a reel, you could look at Redington or another company that is similar to them. For smallmouth bass the drag system wont have to be the best on the market, but the better reel you have the more you will like to fish it. As for line, go with a scientific anglers line. The more you spend the better gear you will get, you just have to find the happy medium. I fish a 5 wt. or 6 wt. for smallmouth and its perfect. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply! I will have to check reddington out, I currently have a lamson konic reel and love it, but piecing a rod and reel and line can get pretty pricey. Anyone have any opinion on red truck fly rods? I saw something about them and was wondering
If anyone had any info. Thanks for all the advise!

| Check out the TFO fly rods. I'm currently using one of the lefty kreh series. The are that expensive. I picked mine up for around 200. I'm using a Hobbs Creek mid arbor reel on it till I can upgrade my reel. The HC2 reels run around 40 and the extra spools are about 20. Been using this set up for the past couple of years. It's been great and didn't burn my wallet to bad. The reel you have would work great paired with the TFO rod. Make sure you match the line weights. |

| it might be a little late but the llbean "Quest II" outfits are great quality for a cheap price. $100 for an outfit of this quality is always a good deal. |

| +1 on the TFO rods. Here are a couple others to check out. The ECHO SOLO and the Greys GS2. Both are right around $100 with a rod tube. |
