What do you guys keep your flies in? Those waterproof fly boxes are expensive! Just starting out. Just need something to keep a small selection of flies from rusting too quickly. Suggestions? Normally do a lot of wading but also fish out of boats kayaks Maybe a box to carry small selection for fishing and something bigger at home for the flies that will inevitably start to accumulate. Those binder looking things with the plastic inserts looked like it would hold quite a few.

No joke some thing cheap, Plano. I know they're not made for flies but I keep my bass flies an salt water flies in small clear Plano boxes. Orvis would be my personal next choice they can get pricey but you know your getting quality an actually they do have some decent ones that are not guna burn your wallet. Personally I know nothing of the binders, so can't help ya there.

Lemme see, Orvis, Plano, Scientific Anglers, what I can stick to a hat band. I use all of the above. I really like the Scientific Anglers two sided boxes, but they can be a little pricey. Several boxes have been gifted to me, but when I go to buy one, I just keep in mind the purpose for that fly box, and find one to match. Consequently I have several specific purposed boxes. Fun stuff, just like adding more flys. Good luck.

I like to mix things up a bit. For smaller flies I like the Bug Luggage line, but for the bulkier flies like larger leeches, streamers and Clousers I like the Allucee Boxes you can find on e-bay. They are sort of waterproof and have two clear sides and very good latches. Only fault is there is no tether to keep them from floating merrily down the river. Finally for bulk storage I like the cheap "dollar store" plastic boxes with the adjustable size compartments. I pay $1.25 for each 12 compartment box. They are small enough that they store well but can hold a dozen or so flies (depending on size) in each compartment and being clear plastic you can quickly see the flies they contain. I also use a labeller on the side of the boxes so I can quickly find the type of flies that I am looking for. In the end though it comes down to personal choice and size of your wallet.

Although it may be expensive Cliff "Justin Case" is sick. It is definitely a box made for carrying on a boat because of the size but almost every guide has them. They store a ton of flies and are well made. No matter what type of fishing you do, the box is great. I know anglers that use them for big musky and saltwater streamers and those who use them for trout flies. I would recommend it even to keep in the trunk of your car with a bunch of flies and then just pull the few you want when you go wading. As for a box to keep at home, really anything would work. I have just thrown them in a bowl or into a big piece of foam to keep them in place until I put them in my boxes. Hope this helped.

Bass Pro Shops carries decent inexpensive fly boxes in their fly section. They have various styles and sizes to choose from. I've used them for several years. Montana fly company has some nice boxes. I just recently purchased one of the Greys brand boxes from a shop near the house. It's great for trout flies. It holds up to 400 flies in slit foam, and was only 10 bucks.

You might try Alan Fly Fishing for inexpensive boxes. They also have great hook prices. I also use everything from inexpensive Plano plastic boxes to a variety of good ones. http://www.allenflyfishing.com/

Like you I wasnt finding "just the right Item for flyboxes....I needed something for large steelhead and streamer and clousers. So I was up at Walgreens in the isle with "colored hinged plastic containers 2 1/2 X 5 X 9 inches.... Cut 3 pages of felt and used brass screws to bind them to interior side wall of box. Works better than I dreamed and is easy to carry in my Orvis sling pack. Boxes have integral plastic latches and the felt does not retain water. now Im makin long slim ones for nymphs...best wishes juice
