hey everyone,

8:30pm here in maine - just got home from LLBeans for some last minute purchases - fluoro - epoxy surf candy flies and some bunny fly tying materials. Tomorrow morning first light will find me and fisherboy HOPEFULLY casting to albies and bonito in rhode island. Pat-M is coming down to meet us in the afternoon and Pete-D is coming down at some point and same with Nick - Last I heard whippa was coming on sunday and monday.

i guess the fish are still around pretty good - and i am on a quest to find the albies - if i don't find them on the mainland - i will go to the islands - and if not there - than mantauk - i am determined to find 'em before they go too far south ---- with the recent warm temps (water and air) i think a massive explosion of bait and fish might transpire in the very near future - HOPEFULLY THIS WEEKEND> I want to see fisherboy hook into an albie! Actually - i want to see fisherboy get spooled by an albie Very Happy - wish us luck --- pete - joey - nick - pat and whippa - call me on my cell at some point tomorrow if i don't answer i am fly fishing and will call you back at some point - but leave a message and let me know when your planning on coming.

ok - rick --- if we do get into em' we will surely put some gear to the test --- they are tackle busters for sure. here is a little video from http://www.evergladesangler.com - headrush - mark and marcel --- got into them for like 5 hours straight behind the shrimp boats - i think they did bust like 3 rods and got spooled or something like that.

BUT - the real test is in the Silver Kings - check this out if you haven't seen it... again compliments of Everglades Angler

Tarpon In The Everglades

I have gone out on a few trips with these guys our of Everglades Angler and they rock - if anyone is contemplating making a winter fly fishing weekend or long weekend trip to florida this year - i highly recommend fly fishing the everglades on the west coast with Everglades Angler - a whole different experience than the keys - the tarpon are Laid Up and not cruising - one of the only places in the world that you get a chance to cast to laid up tarpon - as you can see from the video - SWEEEET stuff

check out their site - http://www.evergladesangler.com/ - mark ward is the owner and a great guy - certainly worth checking out as a fly fishing destination that is a lifetime "must" - i plan on making a trip soon - definately at least one trip this fall/winter. i want too hook a 100+ tarpon sooooooo bad. ------ i was on the boat when joe-m hooked his --- it had to go 110 at least - i will never forget it ---- you can see the hook up and the fish in the videos section --- its called "tarpon.....something or other" --- he hooked it --- it tailed walked like you read about - check it out. it was one of the coolest things i have ever seen on the fly rod. takes nerves of steel - when that guide puts you on top of one of those fish - its easy to choke....believe me...i CHOKED BIG TIME! Flopped my cast around - spooked the fish and then sat myself down and gave joe-m the bow. but - next time - i am determined to excercise more patience and care....i will put that fly - with one false cast - two inches from that tarpons face ....
