Yesterday afternoon capt. Mark Ward from Everglades Angler invited Diamond Dave and yours truly for a fishingtrip in Naples bay. We left Marks dock around 5.30 in the afternoon and headed out to the bay.

Heading into Naples bay.

South of Gordon pass we came across feeding Jacks in the surface. Everybody took a spinningrod and soon I had the first little Jack on board.

The school disopersed quickly only to reappear some distance away. We slowly manouvred to a postion in front of the school so that the tide pushed us towards them.
My first cast was immediately rewarded with a hookup,.
I was pretty surprised when I saw the fish close, it turned out to be a mangrove snapper.

Mangrove snapper.

We left the school of jacks and headed for the mangrove shoreline to fish the so called " Snook hotels" .
Diamond Dave did his magic by skipping a lure inear the mangrove roots while I tossed a black clouser minnow on the flyrod in the same locations.
We got lots of hits and after a while I hooked in to a nice size
Jack Crevalle.

Although we hooked some snook they all managed to throw the hook with their typical head shaking manouvres.
The sun was setting so time to fish slowly ran out.
Light faded slowly so Mark advised me to use a popper instead of the clouser. After a few casts into the mangroves a fish exploded on top. It was not a Snook but another nice size jack that had me running all over the boat.

Diamond Dave had the honour of fshing during sunset.
The swampangels where coming out in force while we skippered through the back bays.

After the sun was gone it was difficult to track the fly properly.
I had no more hits on the fly, maybe my bug repellant also had some effect on the fish:)
It was a great expirience for me to cast into the mangroves, I had not had the pleasure yet of doing that.
We all had a great time and vowed to repeat this kind of trip soon.
