Fly Fishing - Barbados

Guys: would be interested in your thoughts......I have a number of different sunglasses (all Action Optics) and have great luck with them. I am still searching for the perfect lense for steelhead fishing in the fall/winter......I think I may have found it in the photo/amber lense that AO offers but not sure....Any other feedback on lense color for fall steelhead fishing ?

i have always rolled with amber and have been less than satisfied when i try grey or other colors (but that could just be me) ... i have had spy sunglasses with the amber (but broke them Sad

) .. they were great ... now i have smith with amber polarized ... awesome ... i even wear them in the rain ... don't know how i ever fished and waded rivers without polarized sunglasses ... for me, amber is where its at ..

Agreed on the amber lenses, just got a pair with smoke and I hate them...just can't get used to tham and in low light situations I can't see a thing.

Coming solo.......been tying like a mad man, not that I need more flies.....It just metally keeps me sane until I get there and get in the zone !

Got all new lines, leaders and tippet on the reels, got the vest pack squared away and jonesin' to fish !

Looking forward to it big time !!!

I've always had best luck with amber as well, it's the best color for every condition. There are other colors that are better for a certain condition than amber but when i pay a good amount of money i want to pay for something that works under any condition!

One thing to remember is that the lighter you go (more visable light transmission) the less polarizing effect you get. I like bronze or grey. It depend on the light condition. Extremely bright days the more VLT blocked the better. If you are fishing flat light I like bronze or even amber. They increase your depth perception but you lose a bit of your polarization effect as well as your ability to interpret color. The quality of the lens is important as well. You get what you pay for. Quality sunglasses are optically correct which eliminates distortion. Distortion can cause eye fatigue, headaches and motion sickness. Quality shades will block out UVA, UVB and UVC (cheap ones will not block all of them). Quality glasses will also have the polarization film as part of the lens not a film on the lens. That can scratch and wear off. You should be able to get good ones for $120-150. You will be amazed at the difference and how well you will take care of them when you pay a bit more. One last thing to consider is that Photochromic or light sensative lenses can become sluggish or even stop working in cold temperatures. So is you are fishing in the winter you may want to consider that.

I have always rolled with the amber colored lens. I like the view out of it, even on cloudy days it adds some color. Grey lenses are too dark for me. I just bought a pair of kaenon rhinos and love them. Very comfortable and nice lenses.
