hey, would be glad to "try" to help as best i can ... i bet you will be glad to be coming home to the USA after being stationed in Japan .. welcome home. Ok ... so, here is what I know .. maybe others out there .. will have other insight.

1. my wife went to Arizona State Univ., so, i have been to arizona many times. (phoenix area)

2. i looked on a map to see "yuma" and it is west of phoenix.

3. i thought to myself .. "well, the stuff i know .. probably won't help" .. but, i did a little googlemaping and realized that from yuma to flagstaff az (up by the grand canyone) is only 321 mi – about 4 hours 46 mins ... and ALL HIGHWAY .. so, maybe, what i do know will help ..

4. if you have never been to AZ .. you gotta go up in this direction, for the simple fact that it is beautiful .. the red rocks, the canyons, the flintstones like rock formations and obviously the grand canyon .. all natural wonders of the world "literally"

5. for fly fishing - phoenix are and i suspect sw of that to YUMA is gonna be HOT .. so, i suspect bass is gonna be the game

6. if you are like me i wanted trout when i was in az .. so, knowing what i knew about trout i looked for "cold" water and "cold" temps .. obviously "cold" being relative to arizona desert. .... i found trout and a beautiful trout rivers too. check out "slide rock national park" in arizona .. somehwere between sedona and flagstaff i think ... it is on the major highway heading to flagstaff .. so would be LESS than the total drive to flagstaff ... small river, crystal clear, beautiful pools and trout

So, do some research on towns like JEROME, SEDONA, FLAGSTAFF .. and if 3 hours is all you gotta drive .. well, depending how you look at it, that is "close" .. certainly close in my book .. if i lived in yuma and wanted to catch trout ... now, if you don't care what you target ... i don't think you will have trouble finding large mouth bass and even stripers (or wipers) as they call them in the big reservoirs .... and, for all i know, maybe you can just go directly north of yuma an hour or so and find trout??

that is what i know ... hope it helps .... welcome home.
