Hey,
I have been messing around the last couple of months trying to find a good caddis larvae pattern.I can't seem to find a good one that works. Does anybody have any suggestions or patterns they cud show me. Thanks.

What color and size are your local caddis? They vary by water, type of water, and by species considerably. Generally speaking- in faster water you'll find more predatory (uncased, non-net spinning) caddis. These will be larger- sz 10s and 12s, and generally either bright green or brownish in color. For my local water- I use green glass beads tied on a hook with black thread for a head (tied on the hook bend). The net spinners (algae feeders) are smaller- 14-20 and will also vary by color. For these- a basic thread midge with a brassie style head (bead with peacock herl or ice dubbing thorax) will work well. You can add shine or not to the body material. You also could have shredder type caddis- that feed on old vegetation. These are generally larger cased caddis. I don't use many of them, but am told an Oliver Edwards style works well.

I have one I call the, rock a by baby, it's made of 5 minute epoxy

on a long shank hooh. Before the epoxy cures I roll it in small gravel.

when it is set I tie a black hackel just behind the eye of the hook, build

a head, whip finish, cut off the top hackel fibbers and wa-la, a caddis

nymph.

If your streams are more grass and sticks, roll the thing in small grass

and sticks.

They fish well around rocks and in pocket water.
