Here we have Kingfish, Mahi-Mahi (dorado) and kahawai. The latter are accessible from the shore.

8.5lb Kahawai on 6wt z-axis.

iteresting .. new zealand seems to get such big attention for its trout waters and amazing trout fly fishing ... have not personally seen much on the saltwater side .. that is pretty cool that you catch those fish .. especially from shore ... kingfish and mahi (dorado) ... i am familiar with and have caught on the fly .. i have never even heard of a "kahawai" ... now that i have, i'd like to catch one though! ... i was saying in a recent post that one of my "dream trips" would be australia saltwater ..... seems to me that if that "dream" were ever to come true ... it would make sense to tie in australia with a new zealand trip .. as both are a world away from me .. but, respectively close to each other ... is this something that people do?? pretty "easy" and can getting from australia to new zealand be done on a fairly reasonable budget ?????? ..... i would really love to visit that part of the world with my fly rod someday .... probably a stupid question but .. in regards to new zealand ... how far is the good trout water from the saltwater fly fishing that you are doing? .. what kind of saltwater opportunities exist if you have a boat??? tuna?
