Fly Fishing - Maine

I'll be going to Lewiston, ME this summer to visit my sister and her husband and i am looking for any place to fly fish. We will be going at the begining of July. Any thaughts or recommendations?

Hey Bfly,

The Nezinscot River in Turner, downstream from the Rt. 4 crossing, holds brown and brook trout. It should be very wadeable in July, but water temps might be tough later in the month. There are some nice runs below the dam just after that crossing, and also at the next crossing downstream (Rt 117). There's parking on river right just below that dam. If you follow the Nezinscot up river, into Buckfield, it splits and the eastern branch has some very nice stretches. Check out the crossings along Rt. 140, and also where 140 intersects with 219.

If you have a boat or canoe, Lake Auburn holds some big Landlocked Salmon, but does get fished pretty hard. Be careful where you fish on that lake though because half of it is untouchable (water supply for L/A).

If you're into small streams, you could take a peek at Martin Stream, also in Buckfield. I have a feeling that water levels might be getting low in July though. Worth a look anyway.

There's a ton of water that's within reach for day trips too.

In the Lewiston area you also have the Androscoggin and the Little Androscoggin. In the summer in the Lisbon Falls area you will find some nice bass fishing and possibly some holdover trout. Or you could head just a little further north to all the lakes between Lewiston and Augusta. And in the Augusta area, the Cobbosee Stream may still hold some trout, but the stripers will also be running up the Kennebec. Further up the Kennebec you can find trout, bass, etc.
And the ocean is not that far away for stripers.
