Fly Fishing

Hi I'm from MN and this summer from late june to early July I'm going to Colorado. I'm staying in summit county and most of the time will be fishing the blue river. I want to know the conditions of this river at this time and what is hatching and where to fish and what to use. I also will be going to the Yampa for a day and want to know what hatches at this time in june and july. And where to fish in steamboat springs and what you should use for this river

The blue river is pretty technical and gets alot of pressure through the town of silverthorne. There are some big fish and you can see them in the gin clear water. Mysis shrimp will work, rs2's, phesant tails, BWO's and a lot of midges. Keep your flies small #18-24. The dream Stream will be about an hour and a half from summit county and is more of the same. Technical tail water fishing with a lot of pressure. Basically on the tailwaters (rivers below the dams; Blue, Dream Stream, Frying Pan, Yampa, Taylor) your will need tiny bugs and a lot of them. The arkansas and colorado might still be very swollen due to the large amount of run off that we are starting to get now. If they are I would reccomend fishing them on a float trip. Both rivers have great fishing. you certainly will not be dissapointed with your trip. I live about 30 min from summit county. Shoot me a PM before your trip.

The Yampa right now is running really really high. Fishing could be tricky in town. You could go up to the dam and fish the short section of public water there. It holds a ton of fish that are picky (but not as bad as fish on the Blue). Any small colorful nymphs will work. I always had good luck with red. If you are really lucky, you will get there during one of the few hatches that happens. Good luck!!!

I was just in CO last week. Spent my time in the Westcliffe/Salida area. The Arkansas was way too dirty to fish. I did well fishing the small area creeks. They were in great shape and the fish were hungry. We caught lots of fish but nothing over 12-14". But, it was a blast to fish the pocket water of the little creeks.

I just got back from coloardo the fishing was great we caught some 20 inchers and got into lots of big trout
