OK. My girlfriends daughter is 6 and we're going to take a trip to Maine the first week of August. She wants to "take me" fishing to celebrate my birthday on the 4th and she wants to fish too! I would love to take her somewhere that she could catch. Now I'm a fly fisherman at heart but I can't see her getting into it so easily so I think I'll probably want to go,like, worm fishing with her or something...Just so she could get the feeling of having a fish on. Any ideas? I'm really thinking worm and bobber style but some place where I could throw some light tackle or even a fly. Come to think of it I might even need a guide cause I've got no spin tackle. We're going to be in Kennebunkport. I think that Sebago Lake is nearby...?

hey - you are gonna be right there by one of the easiest to access, beautiful and almost always productive striper spots for both fly and spin .. go to parsons beach on rte 9 and fish the mouth of the mousam river on a dropping tide ... little sluggos for her .. or even sand worms or what not ... and clousers for you ... great place for a kid too ...

if you didn't want saltwater and wanted freshwater trout and salmon ... your best bet would be the upper stretches of the kennebek river ... if you wanted small mouth bass .. there is absolutely no shortage of those ...

let's see though ... for the girl, the kid and you .. i'd probably recommend taking a drift boat trip in the shawmut section of the kennebec river ... tons of small mouth bass with rainbow and brown trout mixed in ... so, it would be a pretty easy float with plenty of action for all .. and, this section of the river (unlike many of the other rivers in maine that hold trout and salmon) is not fly fishing only ... so you can throw flies and cast light tackle and catch smallmouth bass until your arms fall off .. big ones too ...

call mike holt at fly fishing only ... he is a good friend .. his shop is right on the river at shawmut ... he can line you up with the perfect drift boat trip and guide for that section of river .. you can get his number from his website www.flyfishingonly.com ... tell him jeremy sent you ...
