I'm heading to Naples Florida to get some fishing time in next Wed. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I plan on fishing Clam pass and Gordon pass...tips for these spots appreciated also. I saw the post Marshal D and Jeremy posted about the Tamiami Trail....If either of you could give me some ideas on where to go out there would be awesome. I tried google earthing the tarpon creek place....but no luck finding it. Any and all ideas greatly appreciated!!!!!
For the trail, I'll give you some directions. Go East on 41 towards Marco and about a couple of miles past the turn off to Everglades City, you'll come to Wooten's Airboat rides. There's good Snook water right in the canal after you go by the Everglades City turn off. Park the car and sneak-cast the trail creek next to the road. About a 3/4 mile past wooten's you'll see a right hand road just before the Big Cypress Headquartes. That's the Seagrape Canal. Fish this for Tarpon using a small Puglesi or olive Clouser. Be there at daybreak for the best Tarpon bite.
For Clam Pass, it's best to get there early. Doesn't matter what tide, you just want it without a lot of people. park in the hotel parking lot...just make sure you either have a beach sticker or pay. sight-fish the beach going north til you get to the pass. after you've fished the pass you'll make your way along the mangroves going back south til you see a large opening which leads out back to the river. fish either way when you get to the river. Use Clousers if it's high, popper-gurglers either low or high.
For the beach snook go to 33rd ave south. Park and pay. follow the beach south and fish around the jetties til you get to the Gordon Pass. Use a DT fly. Stand on the rocks and watch. Stay awhile....cause something's going to come by to cast to...aha, aha..you bet..
Check with Capt. Shadley at mangrove outfitters 239-793-3370 for gear and flies and other suggestions. Have fun.
ps check with the guy who lives in Naples on this page. He's looking for a partner....?
