Here some pictures from a trip I was on a couple of
weeks ago.
The destination was the Allgau area in South Germany close
to the Austrian and Swiss border.
I had visited the area for a three day session late May, this
time I stayed a full week.

It took us a lot more than the 8 hours driving time to get to
the deep south.
Upon arrival in the foothills of the Alps we saw huge thunderclouds instead of the usual snow covered mountain tops.
If was well past sunset when the skies opened and it started to rain so hard that we had to stop at the side of the road because visibility was absent.
As we drove over the river to our hotel we saw that the otherwise crystal clear water had turned into a brown soup.
At the hotel we unloaded our stuff and went into the village for a good meal at the local Italian restaurant.

Next morning we drove to the river and as expected the water was high and brown.
It was the first time I actually saw somebody with a kayak on that otherwise shallow river.

Arghh.. Kayaks.

Fishing was tough but a white conehead woolly bugger produced several strikes and soon I had caught my first brown trout.

First brown.

My buddy Wiebe who was new on this river had some problems to adjust but it did not take long before he adapted.

Wiebe with his first brown.

The spot we fished did not really produce a lot of strikes so we tried fishing some other spots.
Parts of the river where used for powergeneration where a turbine channel would starve the old riverbed behind the dams of water.
In times of high water these old riverbeds would carry a decent flow and fish would move in.

Behind the dam.

In our case we could not locate the fish so we decided to take a break in the afternoon and head to the Italian restaurant for something to eat.
After a good meal we tried a different section of the river.

A view into the country side.

At the new location things where a little better and I managed to catch a few larger trout and even a chub.

We fished untill the light faded and all caught a few fish.
It was not a great day to start with but we enjoyed ourselves.

Late in the evening.

Hopefully the rains would subside and the water would be clearer for our second day in the deep south.
