While searching the net yesterday i came across a post on this site re: fly fishing in France south of Toulouse. i am a keen fly fisher, fresh & salt water, from Australia and am holidaying in France. At present i am in the northern part but will start travelling south along the west coast in 3 or 4 days and will be staying for a week in St Girons (south of Toulouse) from 13 October. I have a 5 weight and reel with floating line and would like to know if any here know of places suitable for fly fishing or fly fishing shops along my route who may be able to help.
keith.

Hello man,

I've been to st Girons couples years ago and if I remind well, you can fish the SALAT river, the Bouigane, the Baup, the Lez, those rivers are in first categorie and might need a special license to fish them on some parts, they offer mainly Fario trouts and in second categorie parts you'll find graylings (on the Salat mainly) and fario too. The best is to ask at the tourism office in St Girons, they'll be more helpfull than me to give you advices about where to pay, where are the first cat and the second, I think they might have maps with rivers shown.
Have a nice trip down there, St Girons is a lovely place, i can't remind excatly where I slept there but it was someting like "Auberge des Deux Rivières", a guest house just in front of a small trouty stream.

Hi Keith
Be careful, the Salat is a very nice river, but the fishing there is closed since the third sunday of september.
If U want absolutely to fish, only one spot to try, because it's open till Xmas and fishy, with trouts and graylings: The Dordogne between Argentat and Beaulieu.A very nice river in a beautiful setting where you can fish during the fall. Pinpoint Brives la gaillarde and go 40km south
Have a nice stay and enjoy
Andre

Hi Keith
Here is the mail and website of a famed flyshop in Argentat. The site is in french and also in english. You can ask them for any question before your trip:
http://www.moucheguyplas.com/index_us.php

If you are fluent in french you can post on :
http://www.gobages.com/forum-mouche/list.php?14

Anyway,a friend of mine's living in this area,he is a flyfishing addict like me and fished in NZ,Siberia,Kamchatka,Mongolia……he knows very well the Dordogne river and will answer if you mail him in english:
cdouziec@club-internet.fr
Enjoy your trip
Andre
