I am planning a do it your self trip for this time next year. Chasing everything that swims out there.
Has anyone been fishing there? Or have any thoughts.

Thanks

I'm not too sure that St. thomas is the place for do it yourself inshore fly fishing. What are you looking to do exactly, and why did you choose St. Thomas?

Its just in the planning stage.
We picked St. Thomas because of the varity of fish and the chance to get some offshore fishing done. And the cost is not that bad either.

We are looking to spend about three grand apiece. And would like to do it ourself deal. Any ideas are welcome.

We had a family reunion last year and rented a private villa in St. Thomas called Sand Dollar Estate. It can accommodate up to 22 people. Anyway, the villa has its own 28’ Carolina Classic Custom Sportfisherman, equipped with twin 300hp Volvo Diesels. Their Captain Jamie picks you up right at the villa's private beachfront and can take up to six guests out for a day of fishing inshore or offshore.

It was the most incredible fishing experience i'd ever had. The area around villa - Magen's Bay - is legendary for big game fish. Tarpon over a 100 pounds are common and there's kingfish and blue marlin. My brother-in-law caught a 104 pounder tarpon.

The Sand Dollar Estate villa is on 2.5 acres and has had U.S. presidents and celebrities rent it, so it was a once in a lifetime experience for the family reunion and the terrific offshore fishing.

You can get more info at their site at http://www.sanddollarestate.com/offshore-deep-sea-fishing-resort-vacations.asp

Just got back from St Thomas and Tortola. Didn't do any fishing (couldn't keep my wife out of Diamonds International either, cost bucoups $$, but she's worth it, cause she puts up with me) Wink
Did some snorkeling, that was as close to any fish that I got Smile

I agree, it didn't strike me as a place that lends itself to fishing on your own, but you might be able to hire someone to take you around in a skiff. Heck the taxi drivers are pretty agressive, maybe you could hire one of them to put you on fish.
