I am getting behind in my reporting, here is one from July 5th, before the rains came:

On this hot and sunny day fishing was tough, the usual haunts where cleared of fish and the ones I did find where not exactly in a cooperative mood.

I saw a bunch of roach moving in and out the current and some of them actually picked stuff up from the surface.
So this was time to ditch the nymphs and try to catch fish topside.
The trusty CDC mayfly was tied on and launched towards the fish.
Those fish where pretty quick, I was not and so almost all takes where missed.
In the end I did manage to focus my attention and behold caught a fish, the day was saved.

After catching that one fish the whole school was alarmed and they stopped feeding all together.
The only thing to do was to search for a new spot and other fish.
Downstream in the field there was a place where I had seen carp in the past so I went there.
Rings in the surface showed me that something was feeding, I had one solid take but missed the fish.

When I came near the weir I spotted a collection of European bream and carp in the current.
This was the time to tie on a bread fly and hope for the best … but stupid me had once again left in a hurry and
forgot to put a certain flybox in bag.
Armed with only dry flies and a collection of nymphs on a foam patch I did my best to interest those fish for a fly
but they calmly moved away whenever the fly came near to them.

Fishing was useless at this spot.

Dark clouds rolled in from a distance, the idea of doubling as a lightning rod was not that appealing to me so I
called it quits.
