Patrick,
As far as reels go, some guys will swear by the Battenkill, and some will swear by the Evolution. Really when talking about each companies top dollar equipment it is like comparing Mercedes to BMW. You cant go wrong with any of them. Personally, I have fished the Evolution, and it has performed great while fighting Albies, Tarpon, and Stripers. I think Ross makes some of the smoothest feeling reels on the market today. I have only fished a Battenkill for trout in a 5 wt, but it was a great reel, and after all the Battenkill has been around for a long time. So I guess, pick what is in your price range, and go for it. There are quite a few more reel companies I think you should check out as well. Look at the Galvan Tourque series, super light and has a bomber drag system. I would also look at Lamson Waterworks from the Konic to the Light Speed. All are incredibly light weight and all have the same killer drag system, the only differences are the machining and the materials. I can also highly recommend the Reddington Rise reels, and the Titanium series. They are affordable and they stopped Florida Tarpon no problem. You really can't go wrong with any reel on the market today if it has a sealed disc style drag system. Good luck with your new purchase |
