This time of year the flats mud should be hard enough to wade but I have to say the fishing is much better from a boat. The number of species in the harbor are amazing this time of year. I usually fish down there in the Spring and the mud is horrible on the flats so a boat is the only choice. If you have a shot at a boat I would take that and go into the local fly shop and get some advise on species and areas to fish. Be sure and check the different channels and estuaries. The fishing can be very good.
Good luck

| The mud flats are a winter thing but now is the time of year to get into the grass flats during the flood tides. There are dozens of flats accessible by foot around Charleston. The tides need to be above 6.0ft usually to do this. They will get up in the grass and tail while rooting for fiddlers. The beach has a huge variety of species to offer. You need a sinking line (250gr,intermediate,350 if the current is rippin), clousers will work just fine. |

| To me Haddrells Point is much better than Charleston Angler (with the exception of a couple guys). The staff is a lot more knowledgeable. |
