I bought this setup when i first started. Great rod for a beginner. real durable and has a great action. I bought a 5 weight, but i can't imagine its that much different. I wasn't real pleased with the reel as the drag broke, but st. croix replaced it with no questions asked. I ended up buying another real shortly after just because i was looking for something different. But overall its a great setup, and I actually just suggested it to a beginner friend of mine. You will be pleased.

ah cool thanks, the guy i bought it from at gander mountain said he can catch 3 to 4 pound small mouth or trout ect on it. since you are familiar with it can you tell me if it is a right of left side reel? i hear it dosent matter tho the drag has my concern. also i was messing with it last night and seemed when i had the actual handle on the left, it would release line as i would per say " reel in" now if it does matter if i want it on right or left, do i have to set the line up a different way? sorry for what may be stupid questions to you tho i am new to this and not familiar with the reel set up

Hey man, no problem with asking a few questions. I know when I first started I had the same question and felt like an idiot. if the setup is the same as mine, the reel should be pre-spooled with backing and line. I asked around and was told it doesn't matter which side you put it on. I always put the reel handle on the left and thats the way i like it, but others do differently, I think its really personal preference. Good luck and get out there and catch some fish!!!!
