Fly Fishing - Big Sea Run Brook Trout And Atlantic Salmon Canada

Greg and Pat-m are off on a fly fishing adventure that is sure to make us all jealous. They are leaving today (sat) - crossing the st. lawrence seaway and then driving to some remote section of quebec. not exactly sure what rivers they are fly fishing - but they will be in good hands and hopefully get a chance at some big brookies, huge lake trout and fresh atlantic salmon. greg is bring his laptop and just got a new camera.

they are fly fishing for the week with Jocelin LeBlanc / Owner NSFA - and if you check out his website you will see that he knows how to take people off the beaten path and get into the remote sections of quebec and find trout/salmon that will make any fly fisherman drool.

good luck greg and pat - i know that internet connectivity in that neck of the woods will be trick - but you always manage to somehow hi jack an internet connection for enough time to post some fish candy and a fish tale or two.

so here is the first report - entitled "Dead Wild Turkey"

- i get an email from pat's pda that explains it in the following manner. just before crossing the border or just after - whatever. they go into one of the canadian duty free shops for cheap smokes and bourbon. greg gets his smokes and pat gets a bottle of wild turkey. they get back in the car - pat puts bottle of wild turkey on one side of back seat and greg puts his goods on the other. later they stop for lunch somewhere in canada. greg opens the back door and when reach for something of his he knocks pats bottle of wild turkey out the door onto the pavement and SMASH! so, they may have a good fly fishing trip if they don't kill each other in the meantime. i guess they are 1/2 way to the st. lawrence. then they gotta cross the seaway in a ferry and then drive 8 hours to gods country. fly fishing begins tomorrow afternoon.

Just heard from Greg and Pat their having diner in Matane and will be taking the ferry tommorow morning heading toward Godbout Quebec on the North Shore of the Saint Laurence river.

They will fish the trinite river (Trinity) a small river wading only no boats needed here

Water is low but getting better day by day with the rain, 150 fresh Atlantic Salmon has gone up the counting fence at the barrier near the mouth of the river. that means 52 pools and countless runs to find those 150 fresh fish. Their will be around 390 salmon and 1500 Sea run brook trout that are in the upper section of the Trinite River.

This river is a index river (Atlantic salmon and sea run brook trout) for the region, the Trinity has a counter that records every salmon and sea-run brookie heading upriver. This eliminates reliance on estimates for up-to-the-minute run-strength information. Furthermore, as lengths are also recorded, any tendency to inflate the average or maximum size of the river’s fish is practicaly imposible.

The Trinity has excellent population of sea-runs combined with easy and inexpensive access. Oh yes, and there are those pesky salmon as well.

good - glad you were able to get a hold of them or visa versa. this will be a fun trip - obviously because of the fly fishing experience - but also because of your internet literacy and web development capabilities combined with greg's laptop and camera and internet availability - we will be able to follow the fly fishing adventures of greg and pat-m as they are fly fishing those amazing waters and as we are all stuck in cubicles.

hopefully - if all goes well - this will be a fun opportunity for us to live vicariously through greg and pat as they fly fish for the week up in quebec and it will be a welcomed opportunity for you to let other flies and fins members know about your services by letting us take a "virtual" trip with greg and pat-m. keep us posted.!

PS - i told greg and pat to post the stories and fishtales in story type format - so that i can utilize the textual content in combination with any graphical content and post the stories on the front page. that way - people will have immediate access to the content and the content will be archived within the flies and fins stories database - so that, in the future, when fly fisherman search on "quebec, brook trout, salmon etc.." your stories will be available to them. Forum communication, such as this, is good for immediate fly by night communication, however the fliesandfins.com stories archives are signifigantly more valuable from a content perspective. all of the stories have been edited and written with care and all of the stories have supporting graphics and/or video. so, try to post pictures with stories that are in a similar story telling format as the other fish tales on this site. include funny stuff, tips, problems, successes ...make it a fun and enjoyable read with bits of valuable information for us fly fishermen. pat does a good job at it but greg gets a little lazy after fly fishing - so just tell him to have a cup of coffee before sitting at the pc.
