Yesterday I saw the first live baitfish on Naples pier so today I tried some jigfishing in the still stinky and brown Gulf of Mexico.
The rainfront from Cuba had arrived in Naples and it was consequently raining cats and dogs.

Rain over the Gulf.

It was good to hear that one of the first fishermen I came along had actually caught a snook.
Some pelicans and terns where present and a couple of dolphins where working bait around the pier.
When an angler hauled in a pompano I knew that conditions had improved considerably.
I hooked and lost a Ladyfish in my first hour at the pier.
I moved to the area where the dolphins where and hooked my first
Pompano of this year on a shad.

First pompano.

I had some good hits and managed to haul in another pompano.
The dolphins where on to me and did their utmost best to snatch my fish as indicated by the marks on the fish.

The one that got away, from the dolphin.

Besides the dplhins some pretty big jacks visited the pier.
I even saw a large school of mullet being harassed in the shallows.
When the pompano action tapered down I tried the shallows and hooked
a glorious catfish on the jig.

Catfish.

Naples pier.

After a while I was totally soaked by the rain and decided to take a breake and file this report.
Hopefully conditions will improve and the water will clear so I can do some flyfishing down here.
