In the afternoon I went to Gordon pass to do my first bit of beach fishing while in Naples. A steady southwestern wind kicked up some waves.
The water was still reasonably clear.
There where not many birds on the shore, not a good sign.
At least I saw some pelicans moving south so fish where somewhere.

Pelican

I looked for baitfish along the beach but did not find any.
Also missed the snook in the surf. Earlier that day I had seen dozens of them at the pier.
I fished the jetties at the beach but had no luck, no hits at all.

The beach.

I fished the pass on outgoing tide and had one little snook following the fly.
I returned to the pilings and had one solid strike from a Snook that totalled the crease fly I was fishing. I still have to figure out how the fish could have stripped the fly without touching the hook.
I fished untill sunset and letf the beach blanked.

Sunset on the Gulf.

So the beach is still pretty void of fish.
There is not much bait on the beach so I guess the predators must be
hiding somewhere else. This afternoon I will give the beach another try.

Good Luck Marcel- Those fish down there can be tricky has the red tide been bad?? Heard it was near boca grande. How about at night have you fished for snook under the lights? Keep us posted.

Red tide was real bad down here.
If you walk out on Naples pier and find the regulars zipping coffee at the concession stand without their rods anywhere near you now it is fishing hell where you have arrived.

Things have improved day by day now so I can smile again.
The only drawback for me where these westerly winds which have messed
up the beach due to high waves and muddy waters.
The wind will or has already turned to easterly directions so things will clear up pretty soon and I can do beach fishing again.

For more info on the red tide issue you can visit the website of Everglades angler where a link is put up to the latest red tide satellite report from NOAA
