Has anyone had any experience traveling with their fly fishing gear, mainly flying out of Boston with all of the precautions being taken today. I am interested in carrying on all my bags to save time and loss of luggage. Do they allow flyrods on the plane, and how about the flys etc? I'm thinking about getting a 5 piece travel rod for the trip to Florida and putting it in my carry on luggage along with my flys etc. Any thoughts or experiences anybody has woul be welcomed.

I went on a trip out west this past summer and had no trouble. there were 3 of us and we all carried on a tube. I had a metal 4.5 foot tube and had no problem. Occasionally a busy body would say "you can't take that on the plane!" I just gave them the old well they better because the let me on the last flight. If you travel on a small plane they might have you pink ticket it before you get on- but in that case you just pick it up right as you de-plane. As far as carying all your luggage on the plane let me know- I usually have too much stuff to carry on.
