I see a similar post for the Salmon River,so thought I would try.
Looking for a cheap Motel in Rhode Island for a Striper Trip late May.Would prefer to be out of town, close to good beaches. Not fished RI before so any advice welcome.
Cheers Colin

hello,

i do happen to know rhode island very well. here is the good news for you.

1. may will be absolutely a great time for striper fly fishing
2. no tourists in yet - so no crowds on the beaches etc.. and hotels/motels will be cheap
3. as far as flies go --- here is what i recommend - fly fish with a sinking line - and use a black clouser - and fish on the flats in the ponds or inside the inlets on the marshes - that is where the fish will be as the water in the open ocean will be a bit cold and the bait and fish will be jam packed in the harbors.
4. i recommend staying down in southern rhode island - LODGING won't be an issue - you will see tons of motels for cheap on rte 1 ...
5. considering rhode island is the smallest state in the USA -- you can ONLY DRIVE 30 minutes total from north to south while still being in the state of rhode island...
6. Do a www.google.com search for rhode island fishing reports -- and more than that find a phone number or a website for Captain Don's Bait and tackle in charlestown rhode island on rte 1. THESE guys will set you in the right direction... Tell them jeremy, mike, louie (the guys from maine) told you to call ...
