Fly Fishing - Worm hatch

i got this email from sheila (a member) who sent this question in via email-----------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone in R.I. know the expected dates of the clam worm hatching..It is going to be early this year and if anyone knows or finds out when it approaches please e-mail me ..

Interesting, next week I am going to fish the Baltic Sea in Denmark for
searun browns.
Those folks have a worm hatch too that occurs when
water temps are in the range of 46F.

I was down there this weekend and got the skunk.

30 MPH winds out of the east shut the bite right down. Block Island sound was as sloppy as I've seen a bay.

Met a local sharpie and had an impromptu fly swap on the river.

He's into Kennie Abrahams style of tying with flat wings and I'm a bit more traditional.

He said mild winter has a lot of folks traveling to rhode island early, but it is still very early. small pods of fish.

You know how it is in the spring. here one second half a mile away the next in search of food.

He said they were a few weeks away from the worm hatch.

However I did see a couple dead worms at low tide on the sand bars in the Narrow river. Can't vouch if they're naturals from a hatch or store bought bait.

Jer,

The water is warming in the back salt ponds, the worm hatch is expected to be very soon. With the warm weather we are expected to have for the next 5 days, I would expect the hatch to be as soon as this Sunday/Monday. I am sure Marc will tell me asap once the hatch turns on. Then I will give you a ring.
