I will be fishing the Upper Madison above ennis around the 15th of August and I was wondering what types of flies I should stock up on and where to go. Any suggestions would be helpful....
Thanks |

turns out ennis is only 15 minutes from cameron montana -- kelly galloup's lodge and fly shop in cameron montana - the slide inn - do a google on slide inn - kelly is a well known fly tier and a great fly fisherman. greg and marshall have gone several times and done very well ... they can tell you more about exact patterns and that stuff ... but in the meantime here is a fishtale they wrote about their trip a couple years ago .. i think they went another time too -- not sure. if you call or go into kellys place - tell him greg and jeremy from fliesandfins.com say hello.

| actually - just went to kelly site -- august = attractors, hoppers etc... and he said .. ANTS are the most overlooked pattern on the river for august .. and that some of his best fish are tricked with ants -- see his report page on his site .. |

| I staye with Marshall at The Slide Inn and it was great! Cabin was 50 feet from the Madison, views were spectacular and the fishing was great. As Jeremy said ants would be great this time of year. I'd give Kelley a call or get the Western fly hatch guide at Barnes and Noble or maybe through Mike at Flie Fishing only. There is some great water to fish from Quake Lake down. The Rainbows are great and love the Trico hatches. These hatches are like snow, unbelievable. Kelly has a great fly shop at his lodge where you can get a great selection of flies from a great tyer. Anything you need he has. Tell him greg said Hi! |

Yes Kelly is a great guy, I dont know him in person but have corresponded with him through emails. You should get his video if you ever have the chance. Modern Streamers for trophy trout, its awesome. Also I am headed to Bozeman tomarow mornig for a week and plan to fish a quite large area. I will report backwhen I get back with some info that hopefully you can find useful
