Many times throughout this past season I would meet people on the water or I would see friends and they would say, "So, what ever happened with the SimpleFly? Was it just a passing buzz and did it just fall by the waste side?" I would say, "No way. Last winter was the first round of development and this winter will be the second round of development." We got alot done last winter. The concept, the ties, it caught fish .. so this winter should be much more fun and creative and fine tuning orientated. It was awesome last season to see people tie their own creations and come up with their own ideas for certain SimpleFlies for certain places or species ... Hopefully the SimpleFly will benefit from more of the same collective creativity and all of the "bugs" Very Happy

will be worked out of it by this spring .. and it will move from a SimpleFly version 1 BETA (testing) status into SimpleFly Version 2 ... So, if you were involved last year .. here is some references and videos to bring you back up to speed where we left off .. and if you are new to the SimpleFly development project .. these references and videos will bring you up to speed... All creative input, suggestions and pictures of your creations are welcome .. This is post will function as the place for this years development .. So, join in if you have ideas or pics or whatever .. There are no rules .. and the SimpleFly System is limited only by your creativity.....

FFO Forum: A ton of discussion took place on Mike Holt's Fly Fishing Only Forum .. many folks and tiers and fly fisherman over there .. kicked SimpleFly ideas around last season .. And, coincidentally .. the SimpleFly Post .. resurfaced on that site again too! So, its kinda cool that others are thinking about it this tying season and some even got bead chain etc ... I have always tried to innovate. Morphed by substitute, altered by "what's on hand...Still, it's the stuff our dreams are woven and herled around, the "Pattern thet Works"....the secret bullet. Essence of what I love about flinging the fly I tie.

I'll be tinkering ....

I like the idea. I can already see me working on a Squid tied simple style. One question.... Will the clip hooking the two together land a fish the size of the one you caught on my Pollock variation? I'd hate to loose a hog over one letting go.

lines ... i always thought for anything in the salt application the hook would be up front and the back would just be used as a teaser/attractor type thing...

for example . look at the simple clouser examples above ... notice how the hook is up front and whatever would get clipped on would NOT have a hook and just serve as a teaser .. for example the 3 botom sections in clouser example above, only the chartreuse has a hook ... the other 2 bottom sections are hookless ... that is how i would personally fish them ... so, on the chatreuse bottom .. its simply a matter of cut the hook off and game on ..

ps.. there is no way that short striking is gonna be an issue in salt water especially stripers .. i watch bait guys catch stripers on 20 eels with a hook through the lip ... as you know, stripers literally inhale their prey and eat head first ..

If that is the case then I'd stretch a length of bead chain between two vises and tie up several different bottoms. I've seen Bob Popovics tie like that using heavy mono. The heads are finished as if you are whipping a loop to the end of your fly line.

wow . that sounds like a good idea to me .. and FAST and simple .. i like it ... curious to see some of your saltwater simple flies ..

ps .. i caught allot of brookies/browns and landlocks the other day with an orange and purpole simplefly here in maine while practicing my spey casting on the kennebec with a double handed rod .. kinda funny really .. cuz boz had tied this for steelhead .. and i had it in my box .. but it was not a color combination that i would ever typically use in maine for trout/salmon .. but .. after today .. i might start using more color/attractor patterns and not rely so heavily on just the natural colors that i use so much (olive/brown/black)
