Gentlemen (Jeremy):

I notice that each posting indicates the nickname of the poster and in addition, it indicates "Newbie" for most everyone. In addition there is one (1) star indicating everyone's somethingness. So here are my questions...

1) What were the stars originally intended to indicate?

2) When will Jeremy progress beyond "Newbie" status?

I can appreciate the desire on this site to maintain a level playing field hence everyone denoted as a "Newbie" (?except administrators?) and with only one star, but certainly there are some consitent contributors who deserve a more notable distinction than "Newbie *" Perhaps we should have some "Excellent Dudes *****" or some "Old Farts -*-*" (that's negative star).

Just a thought about something that runs through my head often when perusing the site.

hi david,

on many other forums there seems to be an 'in club' or some sort of member hierarchy which to my thinking is sort of childish. Those icons are so irrelevant here especially. Some sites have them built in.

I'm pretty sure jeremy doesn't buy into that sort of thing either. It's never been the 'who you are'.... but it's the.... 'what did you fly fish for and what happened on your trip that may be of interest to us'... that is the focus.

I would like to be a Bone Fish though....swim 30 mph! go like hell

marsh - that said it perfectly ... been meaning to get rid of the stuff .. so, avatars are gone and so are those default rankings that were not being usd at all and served no purposes whatsoever ... more of a distraction than anything else .. ok .thanks.

David....I had wondered the same! I was startin to get worried that Jeremy would never leave newbie status! Glad its all worked out.

Keep the "newbie" thang. It's a reminder to keep things fresh, and try to look at everything you experience through the eyes of a newb.

sorry if that's korny, but I fly fished all day and I'm relaxing w/ a little wine. Cool

rickw -- i like that philosophy .. "newbie" is back ... and it makes sense from that interpretation because everyone is a "newbie" ... forever ... that's not korny .. that's the truth .... let's say you live in western n and have been a steelhead guide 20 years ... in certain respects you are not a newbie in that game, but in other respects you might be ...... but go to florida .. you're a newbie ... go to BC .. you're a newbie ... go to new zealand .. you're a newbie .. ... go to montauk, you're a newbie ... .............. etc... and there i so much fishable water in the world (fresh and salt) .. that there is no way on earth that any one person could ever claim to "know it all" even if they HAVE fished it all ...... so, in essence we are all newbies ... forever.....
